USA - King James in fine fettle

MIAMI (NBA/Olympics) - LeBron James hardly put a foot wrong in 2012 when he fired the Miami Heat to the NBA title and then led the United States for the second time in a row to gold at an Olympic Games.

The superstar has done nothing in the current NBA campaign to suggest his nickname should no longer be 'King James' because if anything, he's played some of the best basketball of his career.

Heading into Tuesday's game against the Portland Trail Blazers, James is riding a hot streak in the points department.

In his last five outings, he's hit the 30-point plateau.

Not only is that streak of 30-plus point games a Heat record, but Adrian Dantley (1979) and Moses Malone (1982) are the only NBA players to have scored at least 30 and shot at least 60% in five straight contests.

James dismissed the suggestion that he is playing with more freedom because he finally won an NBA championship last year.

“It’s just that I got back to having fun," he said.

"That was my number one thing.

“I can’t be somebody else. I can’t be what somebody thinks I should be or this person or that person.

"I am who I am, and that’s the way I approach the game.

"I guess it has resulted in me doing what I do best, and that’s trying to play at a high level.”

With James excelling in all facets of the sport, the Heat are winning.

They have reeled off five victories in a row.

James has drilled 49 of his last 65 shots.

Another MVP award could be on the way.

When it comes to Team USA, James owns a couple of Olympic gold medals.

Come 2014, he may decide to go after his first world title when the Americans play at the FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain.
