ARG - Tough decision awaits Nocioni

VITORIA (FIBA Americas Championship/FIBA Basketball World Cup) - Andres Nocioni has been a warrior for Argentina over the years.

A member of the country's golden generation, the forward has helped his national side capture numerous medals, including gold at the 2004 Olympics and bronze four years later in Beijing.

Currently in the middle of a challenging season with Caja Laboral in Spain, Nocioni is uncertain if he’ll play with the national team at the FIBA Americas Championship in Venezuela this summer, but if Argentina do claim a top-four finish and book a place at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Spain, he'll be there.

Nocioni says he met with national team coach Julio Lamas when Caja Laboral hosted the Copa del Rey.

"We spoke a lot about basketball and he told me his plans and ideas for the next steps of the national team of Argentina," Nocioni wrote in his blog for espndeportes.com.

"He told me that he sees me better and that I have rediscovered my game.

"I am happy with the present and I believe I need to maintain the continuity and not stop, as happened in the NBA."

Nocioni had a solid run that lasted several seasons with the Chicago Bulls.

After a brief spell with Sacramento, Nocioni rarely played for Philadelphia.

"With respect to the next period of the national team, I had already decided to play at the FIBA Americas Championship in Caracas this year and at the World Cup in Spain in 2014," said Nocioni.

"But the situation changed.

"I am going to be a father for the third time at the end of July and that made me doubt whether or not I should go to Venezuela.

"I haven't yet given Julio an answer and he hasn't given me a deadline. He just asked me to reply with enough time in order to plan the team.

"I need to talk and evaluate it with my family, to discuss this issue before taking a decision."

Nocioni already has two children.

"The birth of Laureano I missed because I was in a full season with Chicago," he recalled, "and the one with Benicio, I was there but the following days I had to leave with the national team.

"Not everything is basketball and sometimes you have to do what's best for your family.

"One thing is for certain, the World Cup in Spain, I'll for sure play in it."

Argentina were recently drawn in Group B of the FIBA Americas Championship with Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Paraguay.
